The essential tool for your DEMPE functional analysis
Article – February 2019 | RoyaltyRange
When you are conducting a DEMPE functional analysis, you need to be able to identify which group entities contribute to the development, enhancement, maintenance, protection and exploitation of intangibles, as well as working out how much they contribute. This can be a lengthy, complex process, as there are many factors you need to consider.
To help you, we have created a new DEMPE analytics tool. Our tool makes it quick, easy and intuitive to calculate which parties perform DEMPE functions relating to the value of profit-driving intangibles. This means that you can get on with the other aspects of your functional analysis, while knowing that you have accurate and relevant data to draw on.
How it works – entering your data
Our DEMPE analytics tool works by presenting you with a series of tables to fill out. You simply need to follow the instructions for each table. You start by editing the placeholder information given in the cells to reflect your own business’s profit drivers, DEMPE functions and entities. You then use the controls to adjust the corresponding values accordingly.
A clear breakdown of the information you need
The beauty of DEMPE analytics is that you don’t have to think about what information to include. We suggest you everything that is needed for the calculation. Not only does this save you time, but it puts your mind at ease that your analysis calculations take into account a number of different factors.
We have made DEMPE analytics as clear and easy to use as possible. Each of the tables has a set of instructions above it, outlining what you need to do and explaining how to use it.
You can easily change the information in the cells. When you click on a cell, it will turn green and a cursor will appear. You then simply delete the placeholder text and type your own.
The same is true for numerical data. Simply click on the cell to edit the information.
Adding and removing rows
If you need to add or remove a row, use the +/- buttons, located to the right of the table.
Adjusting the circles
In Tables 2 and 3, you are presented with circles that need to be edited to show which entities perform DEMPE functions (Table 2) and how much the functions contribute to the profit drivers (Table 3). An empty circle means it does not contribute, a half-full circle means it somewhat contributes, and a full circle means it fully contributes.
How it works – viewing your results
Once you have completed the tables, you need to scroll to the bottom of the page to get your results. We break them up into five tables to make them easy to apply to your analysis.
Our calculations are carried out in real-time. If you want to know how we arrived at a certain result, simply hover over that result and an explanation of the calculations will pop up.
